He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and the son of the late Cleve and Mamie Buchanan Silver(s). He was previously employed at Baxter Health Care in Marion, NC and attended Cane Creek Baptist Church,
Survivors include: daughter, Ann Buchanan of Marion, NC, sons, Lee Silver(s) of Bakersville, NC, Rev. Dean Silver(s) of Marion, NC, Dennis Silver(s) of Spruce Pine, NC, sister, Bernice Howell of Bakersville, NC, brothers, Charles Silver(s) of Marion, NC, and Howard Silver(s) of Bakersville, NC, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wives, Mary Johnson Silver(s) and Beatrice Dellinger Silver(s), daughter, Barbara Howell, brothers, Lucian, Brown, Ray Silver(s), and sisters. Kate Byrd, and Revia Buchanan.
Funeral service was held January 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville, NC. Mark McKinney officiated the service. Interment followed in the Silver
Chapel Cemetery.

She was also preceded in death by two sons: David Silver(s) and Randy Silver(s); a daughter: Suzzanne Boone and a granddaughter, Jessica Silver(s).

Gladys Silver(s), 79, of Burnsville, went home to be with the LORD Friday, May 8, 2009, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Maude Buck Wheeler, and the wife of Claude J. Silver who died in 2004. She was also preceded in death by a son: James Albert Silver(s); and, brothers: Charles and James Wheeler.
Surviving are 2 daughters: Carole Pate of Burnsville and Lisa Autrey of Marion; 2 sons: Michael Silver(s) of Burnsville and Marty Silver(s) and wife, Alicia, of Green Mountain; 4 grandchildren: Todd Fox, Amanda and Nikki Silver(s), and Zack Autrey; and a great grandson: Connor Jay Fox.

MARSHALL - Harry G. Silver, 88, died on March 9, 2010 at the Brian Center in Weaverville following an extended illness. Harry was born in the Bandana community of Mitchell County on December 19, 1921, and was the oldest son of the late Fred Silver and Edna Jarrett Silver. He was the beloved husband for 58 years of the late Gail Grubbs Silver who died in August of 2007.
Following his retirement, Harry devoted his time to his wife, daughter, extended family members, friends, church, and hobbies. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Marshall, where he served as deacon and assistant Sunday School teacher. He continued his membership in the Marshall Lions Club. He enjoyed making his annual fishing trip to Canada with his friends, going to Raleigh to watch NC State play football, traveling with Gail and Edna Ann, watching sports on TV, and reading. Harry had a wonderful sense of humor and was the "wind beneath the wings" of his family.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Baynard of Rutherfordton, NC, and two sons, Kenneth Silver(s) of Spindale, NC and Marvin Silver(s) of Rutherfordton, NC. ; a sister, Marie Burgin of Spindale, NC, ; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at McMahan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 4, 2009, with Rev. Leon Morrow and Rev. Allen Marsh officiating.
Interment was in the Gilkey United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Rutherford County Guard.

Asheville - Sanford Silver, of Asheville, died on Sunday, July 12, 2009. Mr. Silver was born November 26, 1933 in Madison Country. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1952. Sanford was a 20 year veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving from 1953 - 1973. He worked for the North Carolina ABC System and was a member of the Asheville Moose Club for years. He was also a member of P.W. P.
Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, the late Kenneth and Mayona Ball Silver.
A graveside service was held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, July 16, 2009 in the Bowman - Rector Cemetery, with the Rev. Gene Linton officiating. Military graveside rites were conducted by the Mars Hill VFW Post # 5483.

Connie Lynn McCray Silver(s), age 42 of Hiawassee, GA and formerly of Hayesville, NC passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. She was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter of Marie Ferguson McCray of Hayesville, NC and the late Arlin Richmond McCray who passed away in 2009. Connie loved football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sister, Angila McCray who passed away in 1999.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Mark Silver(s); two sons, Kenny Silver(s) and wife, Alisha of Hiawassee, GA and Brandon Silver(s) of Hiawassee, GA; one daughter, Hope Silver(s) of Jasper, GA; sister, Patricia Green and her husband, Richard of Hiawassee, GA and granddaughter, Selena Silver(s) of Hiawassee, GA.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Hayesville, NC. The Rev. Glenn Eller, Rev. Raburne Wilson and Rev. Jarvis Bennett officiated. Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dwayne Green, Austin Green, Ricky Moss, Jacob Moss, C.J. Silver(s) and Ray Everett.

MARSHALL - Harry G. Silver, 88, died on March 9, 2010 at the Brian Center in Weaverville following an extended illness. Harry was born in the Bandana community of Mitchell County on December 19, 1921, and was the oldest son of the late Fred Silver and Edna Jarrett Silver. He was the beloved husband for 58 years of the late Gail Grubbs Silver who died in August of 2007.
Harry spent his formative years on his family's farm in Bandana. An early interest in agriculture and working with people motivated him to enter North Carolina State College (now NC State University) with the goal of becoming a county agent. After one year at NC State, he interrupted his education to serve his country during World War II. From 1942 to 1946, he served in the US Army. The majority of this time was spent in the military police guarding German prisoners of war on both American and foreign soils. Harry always took great pride in the fact that he and his four siblings served America during war time.
After being discharged from the Army, he returned to NC State and earned his bachelor's degree in Agronomy. He moved to Madison County in 1949 and began his employment with North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service. He worked in the extension service from 1949 to 1970 in Madison and Swain Counties. He was responsible for developing many county programs which increased farm income and provided more jobs for local people. The trellised tomato industry in Madison County was developed under Harry's leadership and brought in over one million dollars annually to Madison farmers. In 1970, Harry returned to NC State and earned his master's degree. He was inducted into the Honor Society of Agriculture. After earning his master's, he was promoted to TVA Supervisor for Western North Carolina where he worked until his retirement in 1978. Under his leadership, many new county programs in shrubbery production were initiated for many of the mountain counties. In 1993, Harry's distinguished career was recognized by his induction into the WNC Agricultural Hall of Fame.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., Friday in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Stephen Loftis officiating. Interment followed in the Silver Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Mitchell County.

He was also preceded in death by six sisters: Hope and Ruby Thurlene Silver(s), Ena Allison, Martha Allbright, Clara Belle Bradford and Belle Garland; seven brothers; Hollis, Clyde, Joe, Bradley, Sheridan, Jim and Dewey Silver(s).
Jack was a life long member and deacon for over fifty years at Bird Branch Baptist Church. He was a farmer and also worked for over thirty years for his brothers at Dolph and S.W. Silver(s) Construction. He loved mowing and weed eating around his farm, squirrel and ginseng hunting, but mostly his family and his Lord.
Surviving are his loving wife of fifty-six years: Neva Berry Silver(s); three daughters: Tina Elkins and husband, Larry, of Bakers Creek, Lena Briggs and her husband, Ralph, and Geraldine Stamey and husband, Bill, of Jacks Creek; three sisters: Miranda Robinson and Gladys Woodby, both of Burnsville and Valley Phillips of Fayetteville; two brothers: Dolph and S.W. Silver(s), both of Burnsville; grandchildren: Michelle Briggs of Haines City, FL, Jackie Briggs and wife, Charlene, of Burnsville and Sonya Thomas and husband, Mark, of Burnsville; step-grandchildren: Tammy McMahan of Burnsville and Brent Elkins and wife, Glenda, of Marion; eight great-grandchildren and two special children: Ashley Silver(s) and Autumn Hensley.
Funeral Services was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Pastor Ray Wilson officiated. Burial followed in the Jack Silver(s) Family Cemetery on Jacks Creek. Pallbearers were Willie Hensley, Morris Silver(s), Darryll Silver(s), Jackie Briggs, Adam Silver(s) and Brandon Williams.

Marion, NC- Julia A. Silver, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 24, 2010, at her residence. She was born in McDowell County on April 10, 1958. Julia was loved by her many friends and family and will be remembered for many things. Her love for animals, especially strays that wandered into her life; sacrificing her time and resources unselfishly to help family and friends; and her readiness to help anyone in need. All these things and more were what made Julia who she was and how she will be remembered. She was a member of Sunnyvale Baptist Church. She was also an accomplished floral designer at Marion Floral & Gift.
Deeply saddened by this loss are her mother, Sarah Adrienne McDill and her husband, Michael Parker; her three children, Abbie Randolph and her husband, Josh, Hunter and Keever Slagle; six brothers, Walter Hennessey, Elden, Randy and Timmy Inman, Wesley and Wade Silver(s); two sisters, Sophie Slagle and husband, Randy, Tilly Elkins and husband, Kim; a grandson, Donovan Randolph; four aunts, Laura Inman, Faye Weise, Shirley Pope and Christine Hewitt; an uncle, Jerry Silver(s) and his wife, Robbin; a niece, Caitlyn Ramsey; a nephew, Lucas Hennessey and a dear friend, Nadean Penland.
A service in celebration of her life was held at 11AM on Friday, May 28, 2010, at Sunnyvale Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ronnie Gentry and Jimmy Buchanan officiating. Burial was in the Robinson Cemetery in Yancey County, NC.

Rose Carpenter Silver(s), age 106, of Silver Hollow Road in Spruce Pine, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. Born on May 8, 1903 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Dole Smith Carpenter. She was the wife of the late Dallas Silver(s) who passed away in 1981. She was preceded in death by two sons; Roy and Paul Silver(s) and three daughters; Maude Silver(s), Grace Biddix and Jennie King.
She was retired from the Carpenter-Phillips Mica Company and was a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Silver(s) and Charles Silver(s) and wife, Ellie of Spruce Pine; Also, she was survived by eighteen grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
The funeral services for Mrs. Rose Silver(s) were conducted on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The Revs Ronnie Gouge and David Philbeck officiated at the service. Interment was in the Silver(s) Family Cemetery.
